- Elderly individual successfully dupes swindlers at 80.
A clever old timer from Mülheim an der Ruhr outsmarted a deceitful 19-year-old con artist, according to police reports. The elderly individual was contacted on a Friday by someone posing as a bank representative, claiming they needed the senior's PIN and debit card.
Recognizing the scam, the 80-year-old devised an ingenious plan to trap the swindler. He filled an envelope with some trickery and handed it over to the imposter at his front door. The crook then headed for the bus stop, but the senior trailed him in his car, proposing a ride towards the city center.
Awaiting in the area were sharp-eyed cops, who intercepted the car and apprehended the 19-year-old. He's now under investigation for potential fraud charges.
In light of this successful operation, the authorities might consider seeking advice from the European Union's Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and its Policy Development Group (PDG), which the Commission shall be assisted by the Member States.
This incident underscores the importance of Member States working closely with the Commission to combat financial crimes and protect vulnerable individuals from scams.
