Eisenach's handball players also lose against Melsungen
ThSV Eisenach have conceded their sixth successive defeat in the German Handball League and remain in a relegation place. The Thuringians were beaten 24:27 (9:13) at home to MT Melsungen on Friday. The win meant that the club from Hesse temporarily took over the lead in the table.
The visitors benefited in particular from an excellent 7:1 run in the opening spell to record their eleventh win of the season. Eisenach's attacking play did not work at all at first. The home side had scored just two goals after twelve minutes. The home side had particular problems with the flowing counter-attacks by Melsungen's international Timo Kastening. The right winger was the best scorer of the game with eight goals.
The club from Hesse then shifted down a gear and made more technical mistakes. As a result, Eisenach was able to reduce the deficit to two goals (19:21). Things became turbulent in the final spell. Kastening was elbowed in the face by opponent Peter Walz, had to be treated and left the court with a thick bandage around his head. The accident made no difference to the victory.
Despite their best efforts, ThSV Eisenach continued their losses in the Bundesliga, falling to MT Melsungen 24:27. The victory momentarily placed Melsungen at the top of the table in the German Handball League.
