Handball - Eisenach loses against record champions from Kiel

ThSV Eisenach clearly lost against THW Kiel in the German Handball League. The record champions suffered a 32:40 (19:22) defeat in the sold-out Werner-Aßmann-Halle on Friday. In front of 3150 spectators, Niklas Ekberg from THW Kiel was the best scorer with seven goals, including three converted seven-meter penalties. Willy Weyrauch (6 goals) was the best scorer in Eisenach.

Two missed shots by ThSV in succession allowed THW Kiel to open up a four-goal lead after eight minutes. After it initially looked as if the visitors from Kiel would get the better of Eisenach in the first half, the home side recovered shortly before the break and closed the gap to two goals. In this phase, the newly promoted club also dared to use the attacking seven-against-six tactics that Kiel played throughout the game. In the first 24 minutes, Kiel had replaced its goalkeeper with another outfield player ten times. The visitors went into the break with a 19:22 lead.

The club from Wartburg came back strongly after the break and tied the scores at 22:22 after five minutes. However, they were not able to hold on to it for long and completely lost control of the game. The record champions from Kiel scored six goals in a row to build a lead that they were able to extend to 40:32 by the end.
