Eisbären Berlin lose 6:9 against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg

The Eisbären Berlin have lost their second home game in a row in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). On Saturday evening, the league leaders lost 6:9 (1:4, 0:2, 5:3) to the Grizzlys Wolfsburg. Maximilian Heim scored two goals, Marcel Noebels, Tobias Eder, Patrice Cormier and Zach Boychuk also scored for the Berliners, who allowed themselves too many defensive mistakes and puck losses in the first two periods.

In front of 14,200 spectators in the sold-out arena at Ostbahnhof, the home side got off to a poor start. After three minutes, the visitors led 2:0 thanks to an underpaid goal by Matt White and a goal by Justin Feser. Darren Archibald and Chris Wilkie extended the lead before Noebels reduced it for the hosts on the powerplay.

After the first break, Nikita Quapp replaced the hapless Jake Hildebrand in goal for the Polar Bears. However, the 20-year-old goalie was unable to prevent the Lower Saxons from pulling further ahead through Julian Chrobot and an overtime goal from Spencer Machacek. In the turbulent final period, Eder on the power play and Heim scored for the Capitals. Archibald scored his second goal, but Cormier, Heim again and Boychuk brought the Berliners back into contention. However, Andy Miele and Ryan Button secured Wolfsburg's victory with their late goals.

Despite the loss, Maximilian Heim's goal-scoring prowess in ice hockey continued, as he managed to find the back of the net twice for the Eisbären Berlin in the DEL, even in the face of adversity against polar bear mascot-named opponents, Grizzlys Wolfsburg. Intriguingly, this ice hockey match took place in a sold-out arena filled with 14,200 enthusiastic fans at Ostbahnhof.
