Eintracht women: Barcelona victory "something really, really big"

Eintracht Frankfurt's women's footballers are hoping to be underdogs in their Champions League clash against FC Barcelona. "I think a lot is possible with our mentality, but of course we know the qualities of FC Barcelona," said captain Tanja Pawollek on Tuesday. The defending champions and Spanish record holders will come to Deutsche Bank Park for their second group game on Wednesday (21:00/DAZN) with world champion and Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmatí, among others.

Eintracht had sold almost 14,000 tickets by Tuesday and is hoping for vociferous support from the fans. "The game is simply something really, really big for us," said Niko Arnautis. The coach has all his players available and referred to Frankfurt's unbeaten run of nine competitive matches: "That puts us in a great starting position. I don't think there's a game where the team can play more freely than tomorrow."

The 2:1 win at FC Rosengard in Sweden has given the team led by German international strikers Laura Freigang and Nicole Anyomi additional confidence. A good three years after taking over former European Cup winners 1. FFC Frankfurt, Eintracht will be playing for their first ever place in the quarter-finals of the lucrative competition. Barcelona had started the group stage with a 5:0 win over Benfica Lisbon.

Despite being the underdogs, Eintracht Frankfurt's women's team is eager to make waves in their Champions League clash against soccer powerhouse FC Barcelona. With a strong mentality and an unbeaten run of nine competitive matches, coach Niko Arnautis believes Eintracht Frankfurt can play freely in this highly anticipated Women's Champions League match.
