Eintracht loan against Frankfurt: Borré's special match
Rafael Borré is still a hero in Frankfurt. The Colombian played for Eintracht for two years. And his greatest moment in this jersey was his goal in the victorious 2022 Europa League final against Glasgow Rangers.
However, the 28-year-old has been playing on loan for Werder Bremen for a good two months now and thus for Eintracht's next opponents (Sunday, 5.30pm/Sky). "It will be very strange and also difficult for me," Borré said in an interview with "Sport Bild" ahead of the clash. "The affection I have for Eintracht - and they have for me - is extraordinary. And of course it's special because I'm actually still under contract in Frankfurt."
The fact that the Colombian international striker is held in high esteem at both clubs was clear to see this week. "He is a complete professional. He prepares for every session with total professionalism. He wants to know everything," said Werder coach Ole Werner. "He's totally arrived as a guy. Because he's just totally open and is a good role model for everyone. He leads the way from day one with his work ethic and his desire. His integration is almost complete. We're glad he's here."
Following the sale of international striker Niclas Füllkrug, Borré is one of four new strikers at Bremen. In recent games, however, he has established himself as a strike partner for new international Marvin Ducksch. He recently scored his second Bundesliga goal for his new club in the 2:2 draw in Wolfsburg.
Frankfurt would have kept Borré on the last day of the transfer window if they had known that star striker Randal Kolo Muani would join Paris Saint-Germain for €95 million a few hours later. "Rafael is a super kid who has stepped on the gas in every training session and was always highly motivated," said Eintracht coach Dino Toppmöller. "Of course, we'll have to pay particular attention to him on Sunday."
Despite being on loan at Werder Bremen, Rafael Borré continues to hold a special place in the hearts of Eintracht Frankfurt fans, given his impressive performances and memorable goal in the Europa League final for the German club. In his current stint at Werder Bremen, Borré has played a crucial role in their attack, recently scoring his second Bundesliga goal for the team and forming a formidable partnership with new international striker Marvin Ducksch.
