Eintracht coach Scherning: "Continue on the path"

Daniel Scherning has only managed one win in three second division games as coach of Eintracht Braunschweig. There was more in it, he says. Now the first away point is to come in Wiesbaden.

Bundesliga 2 - Eintracht coach Scherning: "Continue on the path"

Coach Daniel Scherning is optimistic despite his mixed start at second-division soccer club Eintracht Braunschweig. "If we take the past three games, we've always been in contention for points," he said on Wednesday at the matchday press conference ahead of Friday's game (6.30pm/Sky) at SV Wehen Wiesbaden.

Although the 40-year-old Scherning won his first game as Eintracht coach against VfL Osnabrück (3:2), he narrowly lost the following two games at Hamburger SV (1:2) and against SpVgg Greuther Fürth (0:1). Going into matchday 16, Braunschweig are in second-last place in the table and eight points behind the relegation zone. They are the only team yet to pick up a point away from home. "I've gotten out of the habit of making promises, but I can say that we're continuing on the path of the past three games and improving," said Scherning. The bottom line is that his team should have got more out of the last two games. "In terms of running data, we were at a top level. We also invested everything in Hamburg to take a point."

He has great respect for his next opponents from Wiesbaden, even though the Hessians have lost their last two games. "They're in a very good position for a newly promoted team with 21 points from 15 games," said Scherning. "You can see that they're playing freely and are a team that played a bit of euphoric soccer after their promotion."

In terms of personnel, Scherning has a few more alternatives again. Saulo Decarli and Luc Ihorst trained normally on Wednesday - albeit with a reduced workload. "We have two days left, the trend is good."
