Eintracht coach Scherning ahead of HSV game: "Will suffer"

After his successful debut as coach of Eintracht Braunschweig, coach Daniel Scherning (40) is currently facing the toughest possible away task in the 2nd Bundesliga. The team second from last in the table travels to Hamburger SV on Friday (18:30/Sky).

The Hanseatic side are the only club not to have conceded a point in their six home games to date. Braunschweig, on the other hand, have lost all six of their games away from home, scoring just one goal in the process.

"We don't even have to discuss being favorites," said Scherning on Thursday: "In my opinion, we're up against the best team in the league, full of top players for this league."

He and his players know what to expect. The Volksparkstadion is expected to be sold out again with 57,000 spectators. "There's no question that we have to suffer and do things really well. Little things will be punished against an opponent like this."

Scherning said it was important that his team - despite HSV's strengths - "play to their own strengths". His team undoubtedly has strengths too. Faith can move mountains. "We need that to survive and take something with us."

Scherning celebrated a successful debut as Jens Härtel's successor almost two weeks ago with a 3-2 win in the basement clash against VfL Osnabrück. His team also gained self-confidence with a 2:1 win in a test match against FC St. Pauli in the second division. Going into the 14th matchday, the team is still five points behind both the 16th relegation spot and the first non-relegation spot.

Despite their recent victories against VfL Osnabrück and FC St. Pauli, Eintracht Braunschweig's coach Daniel Scherning acknowledges the challenge ahead as they face top-performing Hamburger SV in Bundesliga 2. With HSV being the only team yet to concede a point at home and Braunschweig struggling away with no wins, Scherning emphasizes that his team must endure and play to their strengths to survive and possibly grab a point.
