Soccer - Eintracht Braunschweig distances itself from fan poster
Second division soccer team Eintracht Braunschweig has distanced itself from a defamatory banner in the fan curve following the 1:0 home defeat against SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Following numerous riots at soccer matches in previous weeks, Braunschweig supporters had displayed a poster on Saturday afternoon with the slogan "All cops are bastards!" (All cops are bastards) on Saturday afternoon.
"Eintracht Braunschweig is well aware that the relationship between active fan scenes and the police is often difficult nationwide, but that in no way justifies these statements. Critical statements are permitted in the Eintracht stadium, insults and defamation are not," reads a statement from the club. Following the clashes between soccer fans and police officers, including at the Lower Saxony derby between Hannover 96 and Eintracht, Lower Saxony's Interior Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD) wants to meet with representatives of both clubs in the coming days.
