Egypt's Leader al-Sisi Issues Caution Against Broadening Gaza Conflict
All combatants need to be mindful of the potential hazard of this conflict spreading beyond the region, mentioned the President of Egypt. He had previously engaged in discussions with Blinken and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in the Egyptian coastal city of El Alamein. Egypt and the United States have been actively working towards bringing peace between Israel and the radical Islamic group Hamas, backed by Qatar, for several months now.
On Monday, Blinken held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Tel Aviv. The discussions were productive, as Israel is in favor of a compromise solution to reach an agreement; now, it's Hamas' turn to follow suit, stated Blinken.
The dialogues for a truce and the release of hostages still being held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip were rekindled on Thursday in Doha, Qatar's capital. These talks are set to continue in Cairo later this week.
The conflict in the Gaza Strip was ignited by Hamas' extensive attack on Israel on October 7. According to Israeli intelligence, 1,198 individuals perished, and 251 were abducted during this time in the Gaza Strip.
Following this incident, Israel has embarked upon extensive military operations in the Gaza Strip. As per the data provided by the Ministry of Health under Hamas' control, which cannot be authenticated independently, over 40,100 people have reportedly lost their lives as a result of these operations.
The President of Egypt mentioned the need for all combatants to be mindful of the potential spread of the conflict, which was previously discussed with Blinken and the Egyptian Foreign Minister. In light of Blinken's productive talks with Netanyahu, now it's Hamas' turn to follow suit and engage in compromise solutions.
