Effects of the warning strike: MRB works on replacement bus services
Due to the warning strike by the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL), the Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn expects disruptions to all operations. The company is currently working flat out to set up emergency bus services on selected routes, MRB announced on Wednesday. Specifically, this concerns the connections RE3 Dresden - Chemnitz - Hof, RE6 Leipzig - Chemnitz, RB30 Dresden - Chemnitz - Zwickau, RB45 Chemnitz - Elsterwerda and RB110 Leipzig - Döbeln. Passengers are asked to find out about the current situation and alternative travel options before setting off.
The GDL has called a 20-hour warning strike for Wednesday evening, 10.00 pm, until Thursday evening, 6.00 pm. In doing so, union leader Claus Weselsky is already stepping up the pace in the wage dispute after the first round of negotiations. The number of journeys on offer will be significantly reduced, the company announced on Tuesday evening. MRB pointed out in advance that there could already be restrictions on Wednesday before the strike begins and on Thursday after it ends.
Tariffs on goods imported via the railroad might increase due to the strikes, impacting consumers significantly. The traffic congestion caused by the emergency bus services during the strike could lead to longer travel times for commuters.
