Tariffs - Effects of the planned warning strike difficult to assess

The exact impact of the announced warning strike by the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) on rail traffic in Lower Saxony and Bremen is difficult to estimate, according to Deutsche Bahn. Deutsche Bahn hopes to be able to maintain around 20 percent of long-distance services from this Thursday evening, a spokesperson said on Thursday. In regional transport, Deutsche Bahn expects large differences depending on the region.

The Westfalenbahn, which runs from Braunschweig via Hanover and Osnabrück to Rheine in North Rhine-Westphalia, among others, announced on Thursday that it was unclear which routes could be operated. "Therefore, there is currently no forecast for possible connections by rail," the company's website stated in the morning.

The GDL has called on its members to go on another warning strike at Deutsche Bahn. From Thursday evening, 10 p.m., until Friday evening, 10 p.m., passengers will once again have to prepare for thousands of train cancellations in nationwide rail traffic. Among other things, the union wants to emphasize its demand for a reduction in working hours for shift workers.

Train passengers in Lower Saxony and Bremen not only have to be prepared for cancellations at Deutsche Bahn, but also at the railroads of the Transdev Group, which includes the Nordwestbahn and the Regio-S-Bahn in Hanover. In addition to the wage talks at Deutsche Bahn, the GDL also considers the negotiations with Transdev to have failed.
