Education offensive against anti-Semitism
The governing coalition in Schleswig-Holstein and the opposition parties want to launch an education offensive against anti-Semitism with a ten-point plan. What is needed is a profound structural change and not short-term actionism, said Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) in the state parliament in Kiel on Friday. The campaign against anti-Semitism and racism should thus be permanently anchored as an educational goal in schools.
"Indifference is a dangerous accelerant for anti-Semitism, racism and group-focused misanthropy," emphasized Prien. After all, indifference is the "absence of attitude due to a lack of empathy and knowledge". Empathy and facts must therefore be conveyed - this is just as much a task for schools as it is for society as a whole.
The Education Minister went on to explain that the motion tabled by all parliamentary groups would also amend the Education Act. Schools would have to develop prevention concepts and sensitize pupils to talk about these issues.
In addition, the ten-point plan stipulates that schools should facilitate suitable measures against the revival or spread of National Socialist ideas, according to the motion.
The ten-point plan, proposed by the governing coalition and opposition parties in Parliament, includes a requirement for schools to develop prevention concepts against anti-Semitism and racism, as mentioned in the Education Act amendment. Furthermore, the plan calls for schools to take appropriate measures to counteract the resurgence or spread of extremist ideologies, such as National Socialism.
