Schleswig-Holstein's Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) is visiting Israel on Monday and Tuesday at the invitation of Israeli Education Minister Joav Kisch. According to the ministry, the Vice President of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) is traveling together with KMK President Katharina Günther-Wünsch (CDU, Berlin) and her ministerial colleagues Theresa Schopper (Greens, Baden-Württemberg) and Anna Stolz (Free Voters, Bavaria). Federal Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger (FDP) has also accepted this invitation to the Conference of Education Ministers and will attend some of the meetings together with the education ministers.

The program includes a visit to a school for children evacuated after the Hamas terrorist attack, meetings with survivors and relatives and meetings with education officials in Tel Aviv. There will also be a visit to kibbutzim that were attacked by Hamas and a visit to the Yad Vashem memorial and the Educational Center there. The aim of the trip was to express the special bond and solidarity as well as a deeper understanding of the attacks by the Islamist Hamas and their consequences for Israeli society, according to a spokesperson from the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Education. In addition, the partnership between Germany and Israel is to be strengthened in the long term, particularly in educational matters.
