- Eastern elections in the South resulted in seismic shifts
Bavaria's Governor-Leader Markus Söder (CSU) labeled the results of the state elections in Saxony and Thuringia as a significant political shift. "We've never witnessed a party that's undeniably far-right dominant as the leading force," Söder stated during the political breakfast meeting at the Gillamoos folk festival in Lower Bavaria's Abensberg.
"It's not just about establishing a government for the sake of it," Söder added. Shaky alliances only end up bolstering the AfD over the long haul. "Extremists have the luxury of time," Söder underscored.
Hence, the coalition government needs to be overhauled. "The traffic light hasn't simply lost. The traffic light is now a smoldering wreck," Söder declared. There's no point in encouraging them to improve anymore. "We require more than just a few fresh faces. What we need is a different approach to politics in Germany."
The earthquake of changes in the political landscape was evident in Saxony and Thuringia, as the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) emerged as the dominant force. Söder expressed concerns that shaky coalitions might inadvertently strengthen the AfD in the long term.
