Eagles threatened with a last-sixteen exit in the top flight
Adler Mannheim have clearly lost their first leg of the round of 16 in the Champions Hockey League (CHL). The eight-time German ice hockey champions were defeated 1:4 (1:2, 0:0, 0:2) by the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers on Tuesday.
ERC Ingolstadt are also threatened with elimination in the first knockout round of the premier class. The team of head coach Mark French also suffered a 1:4 (0:2, 1:2, 0:0) defeat against the Växjö Lakers. The return games will take place next Tuesday.
Linden Vey (12th minute) scored the only goal for head coach Johan Lundskog's Eagles in Switzerland. For the hosts, Jordan Schroeder (8th/45th), Gian-Marco Wetter (18th) and Martin Frk (59th) scored twice.
Former German NHL pro Tobias Rieder (4th) put Växjö ahead in Ingolstadt. The other goals for the Swedish champions were scored by Gabriel Carlsson (11th), Victor Stjernborg (27th) and Dylan McLaughlin (30th). Daniel Pietta (21) scored for the ERC.
Adler Mannheim, the eight-time Champions Hockey League (CHL) champions, face a challenging return leg in Mannheim after suffering a 1:4 defeat in the first leg against Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in the CHL round of 16. Meanwhile, ERC Ingolstadt, also competing in the CHL, are in a similar predicament, having lost 1:4 to Växjö Lakers in the first knockout round and will need to bounce back in their next match in Ingolstadt.
