Eagles players have a duty: "Everyone feels guilty"

Following the dismissal of Johan Lundskog as coach of the Adler Mannheim, the players share the blame for the sporting crisis at the German Ice Hockey League club. "Everyone feels guilty, the mood was depressed and nobody could grasp it. That also shows what kind of players we have in the team," said defender Korbinian Holzer. "It wasn't a nice day and of course we're sorry. We had a very good working relationship with Johan. It sucks as a player, but it's part of the business."

Dallas Eakins was officially introduced as Lundskog's successor on Wednesday evening. He is supposed to bring stability back to the unsettled team. "We need more gallantry, consistency and self-confidence is also a huge point," said Holzer. The Eagles and their new coach will face the Schwenninger Wild Wings away from home on Thursday (7 p.m./Magenta Sport).

"The solution, and we've told the team that, is in the dressing room," said Eagles boss Daniel Hopp. "We're giving the team all the help we can, supporting and helping wherever we can. The conditions are now ideal with the new coaching team, but we have to go this way. That can only be done through team spirit. But I can promise that we are all pulling together in the organization."

Despite the new coaching appointment with Dallas Eakins, the Mannheim players still reflect on their role in the team's recent struggles in the German Ice Hockey League. Regardless of the departure of Johan Lundskog, Ice hockey in Mannheim continues to be a collective responsibility, as Holzer admitted.
