E-cars: differences in infrastructure in Rhineland-Palatinate
Zweibrücken is the quickest place in Rhineland-Palatinate for electric car drivers to find a public charging point, while the South-West Palatinate has the worst supply. This is according to data from the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). Rhineland-Palatinate is only in third-last place among the federal states.
According to the ranking, there were around 21 electric vehicles per public charging point nationwide as of July 1 of this year. In the city of Zweibrücken, there were 7.3 vehicles, in the district of Südwestpfalz 70.5.
In second place in Rhineland-Palatinate is the city of Speyer with 12.0 e-cars per charging point. Landau in der Pfalz is close behind with a ratio of 12.2, while the state capital Mainz is in mid-table with a value of 27.0. The districts of Mainz-Bingen (43.1) and Birkenfeld (47.4) are at the bottom of the table, just ahead of Southwest Palatinate at the bottom.
In absolute figures, there are the most charging stations in the district of Trier-Saarburg including the city of Trier (228) and the fewest in the district of Birkenfeld (28). The Neuwied district has the most fast chargers (89).
In Rhineland-Palatinate, 26.6 e-vehicles have to share a charging point. Only in Hesse and Saarland are there even more e-vehicles per charging station (28.1 and 30.0 respectively). The leader among the federal states is Saxony, where there are only 13.9 electric vehicles per charging point.
However, Rhineland-Palatinate has upgraded: According to the VDA figures, there were only 753 publicly accessible charging points in the state at the beginning of the year. By the middle of the year, there were already 3732. 99,000 e-vehicles were registered in Rhineland-Palatinate by the middle of the year.
Electric car consumers in Zweibrücken have easier access to public charging points compared to areas in South-West Palatinate due to the city's superior infrastructure. With the increasing popularity of electric vehicles and the upgraded infrastructure, more Rhineland-Palatinate consumers are considering switching to electric cars.
