Dynamo Dresden defeats energy Cottbus

A courageous up-and-coming newcomer puts Dynamo in difficulty. Routine decides a somewhat wild game in the end.

- Dynamo Dresden defeats energy Cottbus

Promoted side Energie Cottbus missed their first point in the 3. Bundesliga. They lost 2:4 (2:2) to Dynamo Dresden after leading 2:0 early on. Energie went ahead through Phil Halbauer (8') and Tolcay Cigerci (12'). Stefan Kutschke (26') equalized with a penalty, and Tony Menzel (31') leveled the score before halftime in front of 30,795 spectators at the sold-out Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion. Robin Meißner (78') sealed the victory, and Philip Heise (90+1') scored the final goal.

Dynamo coach Thomas Stamm made only one change to the starting lineup compared to the 2:1 win against Viktoria Köln, with captain Kutschke starting from the beginning. Energie had to do without the suspended coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz, with his deputy Tobias Röder fielding the same team that lost 1:2 to Arminia Bielefeld the previous week.

Cottbus storms Dynamo

The promoted side from the Lausitz started courageously with a good plan. After winning the ball, they would suddenly attack with eight players, causing confusion in Dynamo's defense. The lead came from a poorly defended corner, and the 2:0 was a 40-meter screamer from Cigerci into an empty net, set up by a massive mistake from goalkeeper Tim Schreiber.

Dynamo fights back

One had to fear for the hosts, who had alarming defensive coordination issues and struggled with their build-up play. It was only after the penalty - Maximilian Pronichev had held Claudio Kammerknecht's shirt - that the Saxons woke up and equalized with a great counterattack. In this wild first half, Dynamo also had some luck, with Niko Bretschneider deflecting Aljaz Casar's header onto the underside of his own goal's crossbar (45+1').

Dresden's power play after the break

After the restart, only Dynamo played. Energie was hemmed in their own half for 20 minutes. Menzel was involved in most of the chances, but substitute Daferner (68') had the best opportunity, missing a low cross from Robin Meißner. Cottbus waited for counter-attacks, but they rarely materialized. In the end, Meißner's header and Heise's solo run decided the game deservedly for the hosts.

Despite Energie Cottbus' early lead in the Soccer match, with goals from Phil Halbauer and Tolcay Cigerci, Dynamo Dresden managed to come back and secure a 2:4 victory. In the second half, Dynamo dominated the game and scored two more goals, with Robin Meißner and Philip Heise getting on the scoresheet.
