After a hot summer day with temperatures up to 31 degrees, strong thunderstorms are expected in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein on Thursday evening. The German Weather Service (DWD) warned of great danger to life and limb, among other things, from lightning, uprooted trees, and covered roofs. The thunderstorms were accompanied by heavy rain and winds gusting up to 75 kilometers per hour. Hail showers were also expected.
According to the police, there were already many incidents in Hamburg on Thursday due to heavy rain. Numerous gullies had overflowed and trees or branches had fallen on the roads. Further details were initially unknown.
A tree had fallen onto the S-Bahn tracks in Hamburg-Bergedorf, said a spokeswoman for the German Railways. The long-distance traffic in the direction of Berlin was temporarily disrupted by this. This disruption has since been lifted. The disruption of the S2 line is still ongoing.
According to the DWD, the wind will decrease at night on Friday and fog is expected. In Ostholstein, a visibility of under 150 meters is possible. It will be slightly cooler on Friday with temperatures of 21 to 25 degrees, according to the DWD.
