Tourism - Düsseldorf Airport expects 75,000 passengers on Sunday
Düsseldorf Airport anticipates over 215,000 passengers during the first holiday weekend. "The busiest day is Sunday with over 75,000 passengers," reported North Rhine-Westphalia's largest airport. In total, around 3.3 million passengers are expected in the holiday season - a six percent increase from the summer holidays of the previous year. On average, nearly 70,000 travelers were expected daily until August 20th.
More than 800 flights alone to Mallorca
The majority of flights went to Spain (around 1,900 departures), Turkey (around 1,800), Greece (around 1,000), and Italy (around 600). Over 800 planes went to Mallorca alone. Antalya is being approached by over 600 flights.
The airport emphasized that short waiting times at security controls are the rule. "More than 90 percent of passengers need only ten minutes to pass the hand luggage and personal controls." To plan their stay in the terminal more reliably, passengers could reserve a time window for security control in advance. The service "DUSgateway" is free of charge. Several airlines also offer the option to check-in luggage automatically.
- Given the high travel demand, Düsseldorf International Airport predicts approximately 215,000 passengers during the first holiday weekend, with Sunday being the busiest day with over 75,000 passengers.
- In addition to its domestic popularity, Düsseldorf Airport also provides numerous direct flights to popular destinations such as Majorca, with over 800 flights scheduled during the holiday season.
- Despite the large number of passengers, Majorca is not the only popular destination; the airport also has a significant number of flights to Antalya, Turkey, with over 600 flights in the same period.
- For travelers planning to visit Düsseldorf International Airport during the holiday season, it's essential to consider traffic in North Rhine-Westphalia, as the increased tourist activity could potentially impact travel to and from Düsseldorf.
