Engineers specializing in the design, production, and maintenance of machines and mechanical systems - Dürr, a mechanical engineering firm, considers selling its environmental technology division.
Manufacturing giant Dürr is mulling over selling its environmental technology sector as it evaluates strategic options for its air pollution control technology and sound insulation systems. The Bietigheim-Bissingen-based company, well known for its generation of systems that incinerate pollutants in industrial plant exhaust gases, disclosed this development on a recent Tuesday.
In 2023, its air pollution control technology and sound insulation systems, under the Clean Technology Systems (CTS) division, generated a merchantable value of approximately €430 million. This is a fraction of the group's overall revenue, which stood at €4.63 billion in the same year.
Jochen Weyrauch, Dürr's CEO, hinted at a decision yet to be made about the envisioned sell-off, telling German Press Agency that the possible results could involve retaining the division within the group or partnering up with someone to continue its operations. He emphasized that the company aims to focus on sustainable automation, and environmental technology doesn't align directly with its vision hence the possible sell-off.
In other moves by the company, the coating and final assembly technology, as well as the coating robots, are slated to be combined under a new division: Automotive. This is a bid to boost the competitiveness and system competence further. In 2025, the management aims to manage the activities with an approximate value of €2 billion under this newly formed division.
The division that deals with battery production technology presently located in the CTS division will be incorporated into the Industrial Automation Systems division in the future. The division has also been renamed to simply Industrial Automation. The management has affirmed the financial objectives for this year.
