As per reports, Durov, who hails from Russia and holds French citizenship, was apprehended on Saturday evening at Le Bourget Airport in Paris. The French authorities allegedly believe that he failed to sufficiently prevent Telegram from being utilized for illegitimate activities. Apart from this, AFP has also suggested that he might be involved in "grave instances of physical violence" against one of his offspring.

In light of these allegations, Durov was given a provisional release on a €5 million bail. He is now required to report to the police twice a week and must remain within French territory.

Despite the provisional release, the French authorities are closely monitoring the situation, as the Head of the Telegram, Durov, is under investigation for not sufficiently preventing illegal activities on the platform. Following the arrest, there have been calls for Durov to address the concerns surrounding the use of Telegram for potentially harmful activities.
