- During the autumn break, student interns might be eligible for additional compensation.

The student internship fund in the trade skills sector has been boosted again. As the popularity of the internship bonus is high, this ensures that the internship program continues to thrive even during the autumn break, a representative from the Ministry of Economics in Erfurt stated. An extra 30,000 euros were added to the pot in August.

With two boosts, a total of 105,000 euros are now available, which can support up to 875 weeks of internships.

Summer interns get a bonus of 120 euros per week, making it an appealing opportunity, as suggested by the chambers of trade skills. Students aged 15 and above can receive up to 480 euros in aid annually for a maximum of four weeks.

Occasionally, training positions in skilled trades remain unfilled. "The internship bonus serves as an additional motivation for students to explore various trade skills and understand their talents," explained Economics Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee (SPD).

The main objective is to decrease the number of students dropping out of training due to misconceptions about the profession. By making a well-informed career decision, practical, hands-on experience and experimentation have gained more significance than before. Tiefensee hopes that this will also help reduce the number of students leaving training programs because of incorrect profession perceptions.

During the summer hols, the Chamber of Skilled Crafts in Erfurt reported a success story with the internship bonus. An additional 100 weeks of internships could be funded in their region during the autumn break. "The sustained high demand for the bonus indicates that this tool is effective and essential," stated Chamber President Stefan Lobenstein.

The chamber emphasized that registration is done through their website. Since a public holiday is celebrated during the initial week of the Thuringian autumn break, internships during the second week of the break can generally be financially supported.

Even during the autumn break, the internship program continues to thrive due to the bonus, making it an appealing opportunity for students during their holidays. The success of the internship bonus is evident with an additional 100 weeks of internships funded during the autumn break.
