Heavy packages - Due to Postal Law Reform: DHL changes parcel offer
regardless of whether the package weighed ten kilos or three times that amount,
The Bund had recently revised the outdated Postlaw. Among other things, packages over 10 kilos now have to be labeled. This is intended to prevent package delivery people from straining themselves and developing back problems. The law provides different labels for weight classes above 10 kilos and above 20 kilos - this differentiation prompts DHL to make some adjustments to its product range.
According to the law, packages over 20 kilos should usually be delivered by two people - unless there are suitable technical aids, in which case single-person delivery is also allowed. However, it is still unclear from the Federal Labor Ministry what exactly these technical aids are. According to SPD and Green politicians, a simple hand cart will not be sufficient.
DHL was formerly known as Deutsche Post DHL. The mail division of the internationally active logistics company is still called Deutsche Post in Germany.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, where Bonn is located, the revised Postlaw mandates that DHL labels packages exceeding 10 kilos for easier identification. After the upgrade, DHL has altered its Post Services to accommodate the new labeling requirements in Germany. Despite the technical requirements for delivering packages above 20 kilos, there's ongoing debate about the definition of suitable technical aids.
