Former FC Barcelona player Gary Lineker, aged 63, has surprisingly announced his support for Real Madrid during the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium in London. Lineker made his change of heart public on social media in the form of a comment regarding Dortmund's new sponsor, defense contractor Rheinmetall.

In his statement, Lineker explained, "[For the first time] I'll be cheering for Real Madrid in a Champions League final." He paired this statement with an eye-roll emoji. This sudden shift in allegiance comes in response to Rheinmetall's announcement that they are now a sponsor for Borussia Dortmund, opening up a contentious issue with regards to arms deals and their association with football. Both parties claim the partnership spans three years and includes strong advertising spaces, marketing rights, and event and hospitality offers at the stadium and on the club's website.
