Drunk driver seriously injures scooter rider
While fleeing from the police, a drunk driver collided with a scooter driver in Rüsselsheim (Groß-Gerau district) and seriously injured him. The 45-year-old had apparently fallen asleep at the wheel at a traffic light on Monday morning, according to the police. Other road users therefore called the police.
When a patrol approached the man's car, he accelerated and drove off. During his escape, he reportedly drove into the oncoming lane and crashed into the 43-year-old's scooter, who had to be taken to hospital with serious injuries. However, there was no danger to life, the police said.
The police finally stopped the fleeing driver after a short pursuit. An alcohol test revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.63 per mille. The man had to be taken to the police station for a blood sample and further police measures.
The accident occurred on the streets of RHEIN-MAIN, specifically in Rüsselsheim's district of Groß-Gerau. The incident involved a drunk driver who caused a traffic accident with a scooter, leading to serious injuries.
