Crime - Drugs worth millions found at A5 Bühl rest area

Customs discovered a large quantity of drugs in a truck during an inspection on the A5. 71 boxes containing a total of around 500 kilograms of hashish and a prohibited butterfly knife had already been found on Wednesday, the Baden-Baden public prosecutor's office announced on Friday. The retail value of the drugs is estimated at 1.5 million euros.

According to the information, the Croatian-Austrian truck came from Spain and was loaded with pallets of paper. The waybills presented by the 42-year-old driver showed discrepancies, and the officers then deployed a narcotics detection dog. After the dog had made contact, the vehicle was examined more closely at a Technical Relief Organization (THW) site in Baden-Baden.

It was also reported that the driver, who was originally from Serbia, was arrested. The public prosecutor's office then applied for an arrest warrant on Thursday "for importing narcotics in a not insignificant quantity in conjunction with aiding and abetting the trafficking of narcotics in a not insignificant quantity and for unauthorized possession of a prohibited object". After the warrant was issued by the Baden-Baden district court, the man was taken to a prison, according to the statement.
