Drug consumption bus now stationed in Görlitzer Park

The Senate and police have not yet succeeded in driving the dealers out of Görlitzer Park in Kreuzberg. But the uncontrolled drug scene around the park is now to be calmed down.

In future, a so-called drug consumption mobile will be available in Görlitzer Park.

Drug trafficking - Drug consumption bus now stationed in Görlitzer Park

The announced measures against the escalating drug trade around the Görlitzer Park in Berlin-Kreuzberg are becoming more concrete. The offering for drug addicts is now being expanded - however, this is being offset by a reduction in Neukölln. Starting now, a so-called drug consumption mobile, which is a fully equipped small bus or a camper van, where people can inject or smoke drugs like heroin or crack, will be available in the Görlitzer Park. The Senatsgesundheitsverwaltung and the Bezirksamt Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg made this known. The goal of the offering is to relieve the neighborhood in the "Wrangelkiez" between Görlitzer Park and Schlesischer Tor, where many drug addicts and dealers have been gathering and bothering residents for a long time.

The "drug consumption mobile" will be stationed behind the former Café Edelweiß on Görlitzer Straße. Previously, it was stationed daily in the Hermannstraße at the Anita Berber Park. The new location should be driven there from Monday to Friday, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. In addition, a so-called contact and consultation mobile is also supposed to be stationed there daily.

There are already similar offers in Kreuzberg on the other side of the Görlitzer Park in the Reichenberger Straße and at Kottbusser Tor. There are also fixed or mobile rooms for drug consumption in Berlin at various times in Neukölln, Wedding, Moabit, and Charlottenburg. These rooms are operated by addiction counseling organizations and funded by the State of Berlin.

The controversial construction of the wall around the park with fence sections was supposed to begin, according to the latest communication from the Senate, at the end of June or the beginning of July. The approximately 220-meter-long "gap in the fence" is expected to be completed by mid-July, the Senate responded to a request from the Left on 21 June. A planning office has received the contract. The construction of the entrance gates is supposed to begin accordingly at the end of September.

However, several announced construction dates by the Senate have been postponed in the past few months. In addition, there is a lawsuit by the district against the Senate to prevent the construction of the fence and gates. Therefore, no one assumes that the park can still be closed at night this year, as the Senate's goal was.

  1. Despite the planned fence around Görlitzer Park, drug trafficking and usage in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg District continue to pose challenges for local authorities.
  2. The Neukölln area has seen a decrease in drug offerings, but the sudden influx of drug users to Görlitzer Park has strained the neighborhood's resources.
  3. The increased presence of heroin and crack addicts in Görlitzer Park has led to frequent police interventions, adding to the tension in the area.
  4. The Drug Consumption Mobile, now stationed in Görlitzer Straße, is a vital resource for managing drug use in the area, providing health services and reducing drug-related disturbances.
  5. The Drug Trafficking Office in Kreuzberg has been closely monitoring the illicit drug trade surrounding Görlitzer Park, seeking to minimize the negative impact on the community.
  6. Local residents and politicians have raised concerns about the increase in drug-related activities in the Görlitzer Park, calling for enhanced measures to address this ongoing issue.
