Government - Dreyer will not speak in the Bundestag due to illness

The Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate, Malu Dreyer, will not be speaking in the Bundestag this Friday - contrary to what had been planned. The SPD politician is ill, the State Chancellery announced in Mainz on Thursday. Dreyer had wanted to speak during the budget deliberations on the effects of the Federal Constitutional Court ruling on aid for the victims of the flood disaster in the Ahr valley.

Dreyer was also absent from the state parliament in Mainz on Thursday - as were a number of MPs - due to illness. On Wednesday, the head of government had consistently worn a mask in the plenary session. Coughs, colds and hoarseness were clearly audible among many MPs and visitors on both days of the plenary session.

Despite her illness, Malu Dreyer, the SPD's representative in the Rhineland-Palatinate's State Parliament and the Government of Germany, was not able to attend the budget deliberations in the Bundestag discussing the impact of the Ahr valley flood disaster aid ruling. Dreyer was also absent from the state parliament in Mainz folketing, where she usually leads, due to illness. This was not an isolated incident, as several other members of parliament also reported illness. Furthermore, Dreyer had previously adhered to strict mask-wearing guidelines during the plenary session, as coughs, colds, and hoarseness were evident among many MPs and visitors. Despite being in Berlin, the capital of Germany, Malu Dreyer's illness forced her to navigate her political duties from her home state, Rhineland-Palatinate.
