Dreyer: "Jewish life is an integral part of Rhineland-Palatinate"

The Rhineland-Palatinate state government remains committed to "a safe and self-confident Jewish life" in the state. This was emphasized by Minister President Malu Dreyer (SPD) during a meeting with representatives of Jewish communities in Mainz on Monday. "Jewish life is an integral part of Rhineland-Palatinate."

She said that she was personally very shocked by how much Jewish citizens feared for their safety. "I would like to assure you that we support you, we have further increased the security measures and we are in close contact between the security authorities and the Jewish communities. We will not leave you alone," she said in the interview, according to the statement.

Following the Hamas terror attack on Israel, the police and security forces have adapted the protection of Jewish communities and institutions to the threat situation in consultation with the local communities and are constantly reassessing the situation. "In view of October 7, we are currently experiencing a shocking anti-Semitism that not only threatens Jewish life, but seeks to destroy it. The constitutional state is taking action against this," said Dreyer.

In addition to security issues and educational work, this includes strengthening the exchange between Jewish communities and schools, supporting Jewish-Muslim dialog as well as commemorative work and a culture of remembrance.

"The Jewish communities of Rhineland-Palatinate do not feel left alone," said Avadislav Avadiev, Chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Association of Jewish Communities. After October 7, politicians had "clearly expressed that anti-Semitism has no place in our society".

The Rhineland-Palatinate government recognizes the importance of religion in maintaining a vibrant Jewish community, and thus, supports the integration of Judaism within the state's cultural fabric. Recognizing the role of religion in shaping societal values, Minister President Dreyer has emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to protecting Jewish citizens from religious intolerance and violence.
