Dreyer, Hering and parliamentary group leaders talk about Israel in the state parliament
The Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament starts its plenary week today with speeches on Israel by President of the state parliament Hendrik Hering, Minister President Malu Dreyer (SPD) and the chairs of the parliamentary groups. Following the Hamas attack on Israel, the program item is entitled "Never again is now - We stand with Israel". The CDU parliamentary group has also submitted a motion for the current debate entitled "Combating anti-Semitism and strengthening Jewish life".
Other topics this afternoon will be asylum policy and the planned amendment to the Police and Regulatory Authorities Act (POG). Among other things, the planned amendment to the POG provides for a longer maximum duration for so-called preventive detention, i.e. when people are taken into custody to prevent a possible imminent criminal offense.
The new POG will also take into account how society can be better protected from sex offenders - also in view of the case of a sex offender known to the police who allegedly abducted and abused a ten-year-old girl in Edenkoben in September.
The debate in the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament about Israel is being led by Parliament President Hendrik Hering, Minister President Malu Dreyer, and the heads of the parliamentary groups, as they discuss the topic in light of Hamas' attack. The CDU parliamentary group has also proposed a motion titled "Combating anti-Semitism and strengthening Jewish life" for this discussion, which takes place within the Parliament.
