Dreyer expects concrete results from federal-state summit

The Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate, Malu Dreyer, expects concrete results from the federal-state round on Monday. "States and municipalities need more financial support and predictability in order to fulfill their tasks. We are very clear here with our municipalities," the SPD politician told the German Press Agency in Mainz ahead of the meeting in Berlin. "The federal government must move."

However, the heads of government must also succeed in showing the people in Germany "that we have the strength and the measures to regulate and limit the refugee movement, organize integration and thus secure social peace in Germany". "I also expect everyone to work constructively towards this goal today," emphasized the Minister President. "Mutual recriminations do not help, they do not create solutions, but frustration!"

In the negotiations on the Deutschland-Ticket, Dreyer demanded that the conditions be created to secure the ticket. It would be a huge relief for so many people, especially in the commuter state of Rhineland-Palatinate. She was "confident that we will make very concrete decisions today that will enable railroad lines, bridges, urgently needed housing or electrolysers to be built much faster in the future".

On Monday, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) will meet with the heads of government of the 16 federal states to discuss the costs of housing and caring for refugees as well as curbing irregular migration. They will also discuss reducing excessive bureaucracy, planning processes and speeding up approval procedures. And last but not least, the future of the German rail ticket is at stake. The negotiations could drag on into the night - especially because a lot of money is at stake.

The ongoing discussions between the federal government and the states also involve addressing the financial aspects of managing migration. More funds are needed to manage the refugee movement and ensure integration, as highlighted by Malu Dreyer. Furthermore, the federal government should consider tackling traffic congestion resulting from migration-related relocations, as it could impact infrastructure and public transportation financing.
