Prime Minister - Dreyer calls climate conference resolution first step

The Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate, Malu Dreyer (SPD), has described the resolution of the World Climate Conference as a step in the right direction. "However, the agreed transition away from fossil fuels is only a first step towards swiftly initiating the climate and energy transition worldwide," Dreyer said in Mainz on Wednesday. The international community has a responsibility towards less developed countries and small island states as well as future generations.

"We would have liked to have seen a clearer commitment to an orderly phase-out of fossil fuels as a result of the negotiations," said Climate Protection Minister Katrin Eder (Greens). Global warming has regional and local effects. "Rhineland-Palatinate has reached a total of 1.7 degrees - making it one of the most severely affected federal states."

The international community agreed on Wednesday in Dubai to move away from fossil fuels - however, the resolution fell short of the previously discussed clear phase-out of coal, oil and gas.
