Dressel presents fall tax estimate for Hamburg
Hamburg's Finance Senator Andreas Dressel (SPD) will present the results of the latest tax estimate for the Hanseatic city on Tuesday (12.30 pm). The exciting question is whether Hamburg can expect at least a little more tax revenue than last predicted in May. According to the latest nationwide tax estimate by Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner, the federal, state and local governments are only likely to collect around 1.9 billion euros more in taxes than forecast in the spring.
Dressel's last tax estimate to date anticipated lower tax revenues compared to last fall's estimate. However, the deviation was relatively mild compared to the federal government and the neighboring state of Schleswig-Holstein. Accordingly, 275 million euros less was expected for 2024. For the period from 2023 to 2027, the expected tax revenue was expected to fall by a total of 231 million euros according to the May estimate.
In light of Dressel's presentation, the Senate will closely analyze Hamburg's updated finances based on the fall tax estimate. If the revenue projections prove more favorable than anticipated in May, the Senate could consider adjusting its budgetary plans accordingly.
