Dresden Zoo receives another 10,000 euros for orangutan house
Dresden Zoo has received a further donation of 10,000 euros for the new orangutan house. As the zoo announced on Thursday, the willingness to donate is still enormous. The house is due to open before Easter 2024. "The goal is ambitious, but achievable according to current plans," the statement said.
The current focus is on the species-appropriate design of the facility. According to the zoo, in the coming weeks, weather protection huts and additional climbing facilities for the animals will be built, the ground will be filled in and grass will be sown.
A total of 2.2 million euros has been donated for the new orangutan house. According to the zoo, it is the largest construction project to date in the zoo's 160-year history. Covering a total of more than 4,000 square meters, the new building will house giant tortoises as well as the great apes.
Despite the ongoing construction of the orangutan house, the zoo continues to raise funds for other animal enclosures. The zoo is also planning to construct weather-resistant shelters and additional climbing structures for various animal species involved in future construction projects.
