Volleyball Bundesliga - Dresden volleyball players win top match

The Dresden SC women's volleyball team coped well with their elimination from the DVV Cup. Coach Alexander Waibl's team prevailed 3:2 (24:26, 25:17, 25:19, 24:26, 15:11) in the top match at SC Potsdam on Saturday and started the second half of the Bundesliga season with a win. At the same time, the Dresden side gained revenge against the Supercup winners for the defeat in their own hall at the start of the season.

Both teams fought a tough battle with many long rallies. The visitors had already let a lead slip away in the final phase of the first set in front of 1342 spectators. In the following two periods, however, the team from the city on the Elbe dictated the game more clearly with powerful tasks, variable attacking play and a stable defense.

However, Potsdam fought back in the fourth period, also thanks to the substitution of Danielle Harbin and Suvi Kokkonen's attacks, and led by four or five points for a long time. In crunch time, DSC turned up the heat, in particular through the attacks of the two middle blockers Tia Jimerson and Nathalie Lemmens, and earned three match points, which Potsdam fended off and then equalized the set.

In the decisive tie-break, Waibl's charges were more stable, scored consistently and variably from a secure reception and deservedly celebrated victory after 134 minutes. Former Potsdam libera Aleksandra Jegdic was honored as the most valuable player.
