Dresden Striezelmarkt opens on November 29
Dresden will soon be able to "striezel" again. The set-up for the 589th Dresden Striezelmarkt is in full swing, the city announced on Monday. From November 29 to December 24, more than 200 stalls ranging from arts and crafts to culinary delights will attract visitors to the Altmarkt. The Stollen Festival is planned for December 9.
In addition to the already decorated Christmas tree, a 20-metre high Colorado fir from Pirna, there are already pyramids and candle arches from the Ore Mountains on the Altmarkt. The nostalgic multi-level carousel and a historic Ferris wheel are also arousing anticipation.
There will once again be a giant stollen at the Stollen Festival. This year, it was baked jointly by the Dresden Stollen bakers and will soon be assembled into its original shape. The giant stollen will be ceremonially cut on the day of the festival and sold in portions weighing around 500 grams for ten euros each. The Dresden stollen bakers donate part of the proceeds to the Albert Schweitzer Children's Village in Saxony.
During their leisure time, locals and visitors alike can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the Dresden Striezelmarkt, filled with customs like Stollen baking and traditional festivities. As Advent approaches, the city's Christmas market becomes a cherished tradition, offering a perfect blend of leisure time activities and rich German customs, like the annual Stollen Festival on December 9.
