Dresden police investigate burglary in the Green Vault
Even after the conviction of the five main perpetrators of the burglary of the Green Vault in Dresden, the police are still investigating the case. The special commission "Epaulette", which was formed after the sensational coup four years ago, continues to exist, albeit with fewer personnel. Five detectives from the burglary squad are still taking in leads, the police announced on Friday.
Should new developments arise, the Dresden police can react quickly. Some of the loot consisting of diamonds and brilliant-cut diamonds is still missing, and the police are also looking for other people involved and accomplices.
In May, the Dresden District Court sentenced five members of the extended Remmo family in Berlin to several years in prison. A sixth defendant had an alibi and was acquitted.
The perpetrators broke into Saxony's Treasury Museum on November 25, 2019. They stole 21 historical pieces of diamond and brilliant-cut diamond jewelry with a total value of 116.8 million euros and caused over one million euros in damage.
Despite the prison sentences given to the main perpetrators, the Dresden police continue to treat the Green Vault burglary as an ongoing crime due to missing loot and potential accomplices. Visiting museums in Dresden might give one a sense of peace, but the investigation into this costly heist is far from over.
