Wim Wenders' movie "Perfect Days" about a Japanese toilet cleaner will kick off the Dresden Film Nights at the Elbe River on June 27th. The event organizers unveiled a lineup with surprises and "a few favorite classics" on Thursday, such as the "Dirty Dancing Night" and, for the first time since 2019, the Midnight Cinema. A total of around 100 films will be screened outdoors on an enormous screen in front of the iconic baroque old town. Approximately one-third of these screenings are in the family cinema.

The selection covers everything from timeless classics like "The Big Lebowski" and "Thelma & Louise" to recent Hollywood flicks like "Poor Things" and "Barbie." Also in the mix are the new tragicomedy "Falling Leaves" by Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki and the German comedy "Two for One," which is based on a true story from Thuringia's transition period. Additionally, Peter Schamoni's documentary-feature film "Caspar David Friedrich - Boundaries of Time" will be screened in tandem with Dresden's large art exhibition celebrating the 250th anniversary of German Romanticism.

Furthermore, 12 concerts are slated to take place. Anticipated performers include Deep Purple, Deichkind, Marius Müller-Westernhagen, the rising German-Turkish singer and TikTok sensation Ayliva, and Schlager heartthrob Roland Kaiser. sold out engagements include the "Kaisermania" featuring five shows and the appearances by Silbermond, DJ Purple Disco Machine, and hip-hop band 01099 from Dresden's Neustadt district. Lastly, the Dresden Philharmonic is eager to play film music under the starry night sky once more before the season wraps up.

In 2021, nearly 228,000 film and music lovers flocked to the Elbe River, whereas the year prior saw a whopping 274,000 attendees - a record that was achieved despite the pandemic-related obstacles.
