Bundesliga's second division (Germany's football league) - Drescher, acting president, declares intention to run for Hertha.
Fabian Drescher declared his intention to run for the presidential position of Hertha BSC, a second-division soccer team. At a general meeting held at the CityCube in Messe Berlin, he said, "I've been questioned about this several times. I'd like to announce it to you, fellow members that I will be participating in this fall's election to continue the 'Berlin way.'"
Drescher, who is currently the interim president at the age of 41, has been Hertha's Vice President since 2022. He temporarily took over the role following the unexpected passing of Kay Bernstein in January 2024. He had been hesitant to commit to the election but has now decided to proceed.
During the mourning period after Bernstein's death, Drescher avoided making public statements to show respect. However, he's ready to open up now.
He acknowledged that he can't fill Bernstein's shoes, but promises to continue on the same path. Values such as openness, transparency, humility, and sustainability will guide his leadership. The 'Berlin way' represents a significant cultural shift.
Drescher and Managing Director Tom Herrich also addressed 777 Partners, an investor in the club. They reassured them that all decisions would be made internally, without any influence from outside parties.
Gone are the days of lavish financial expectations like during Lars Windhorst's tenure. Drescher and Herrich aim to reach the highest achievable level without being overly ambitious.
