- Dortmund temporarily transfers Moukoko to Nice on loan.
The move of Youssoufa Moukoko from Borussia Dortmund to Nice is finalized. Dortmund's Bundesliga team confirmed that the 19-year-old striker has inked a pact with the French Ligue 1 team following a successful medical examination. The arrangement is a year-long loan deal with the option to purchase, as per Nice's reports.
"At this juncture, we think a new environment may benefit him," stated BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl. "We wish Youssoufa good fortune in the upcoming campaign and will keep in touch with him." According to "Ruhr Nachrichten", Nice could shell out approximately 17 million euros for a permanent acquisition of the striker.
This puts an end to the prolonged conjecture surrounding the highly-valued asset, who was tied to Dortmund until 2026 and had netted numerous goals for various Dortmund junior teams. Moukoko had repeatedly vented his frustration over his lack of playing time via his agent. Discussions with Olympique Marseille and Betis Sevilla did not bring about any settlement. He was omitted from the team for the initial two competitive matches under coach Nuri Sahin.
The return to training of currently injured striker Serhou Guirassy, who rejoined team practice for the first time this week, further diminished Moukoko's prospects of clinching a regular berth in Dortmund's potent attack. He is the second offensive prodigy to depart for a foreign club this summer, following Paris Brunner (AS Monaco), who was also nurtured by Dortmund.
Former BVB and Nice coach Favre commends Moukoko's transfer
Former BVB and Nice coach Lucien Favre, who managed Nice twice, lauds Moukoko's signing. "I didn't have much time to work with him, and he didn't always feature in the starting lineup, but he has a lot to offer: pace, accuracy. There's still room for improvement, but it's not a bad move for Nice. He could still explode."
"The transfer to Nice seems like a great opportunity for Youssoufa's growth, given his frustration over limited playing time at Dortmund.""Favre's praise of Moukoko's potential in Nice adds to the excitement surrounding the young striker's move."
