Don't let up: Hertha attempt a precision landing

Coach Dardai wanted Hertha to be in sight of the promotion places by the end of the year. The Berliners would achieve this goal with a win on the last matchday of the first half of the season.

Bundesliga 2 - Don't let up: Hertha attempt a precision landing

Hertha BSC will be looking to close out the season with a ninth consecutive game without defeat as they aim for promotion in the second division. "The last game is very important, we can't let up now," said Hertha's sporting director Benjamin Weber on Thursday about the home game against VfL Osnabrück on Saturday (13:00/Sky). A win over the team currently bottom of the table "would put us in the corridor we wanted to be in by Christmas so that we could also have a good finish to the intensive five or six months of squad changes, the start of the season and the new start in September."

After the first three league games, Hertha were in last place with zero points and no goals scored; before the end of the first half of the season, Hertha coach Pal Dardai 's team are in seventh place with 24 points, four points behind the relegation places. Away from the points, the 47-year-old Hungarian is pleased with the team's development: "I'm very happy with the team spirit, the team, the style and the attacking play. Defensively, I'm not quite as satisfied, we have to be better there."

However, Dardai also pointed out where the club stood in the summer after relegation from the Bundesliga due to the threat of losing their license between the "fourth and second division." After licensing and the end of the transfer window on September 1, the newly assembled team was able to grow. Instead of getting upset about defeats, those responsible are annoyed by the points lost in the three avoidable draws against Rostock, Karlsruhe and Hanover.

In addition to the development on and off the pitch, Dardai and Weber thanked the supporters for their support. "Without this support, we wouldn't be in this position," said Dardai. 4500 supporters accompanied Hertha to Kaiserslautern in the 2:1 away win last Saturday, 40,000 spectators are expected in the game against Osnabrück, which Dardai also sees as an obligation for the end of the year: "We also have to keep at it. To talk about something positive at Christmas, we need three points."
