Health - Doctors' surgeries closed between the years in protest

Doctors' surgeries will once again remain closed in protest against the federal government 's healthcare policy. This will also be the case on the bridging days between Christmas and New Year, the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Hesse (KVH) announced in Frankfurt on Monday. Various professional associations have called on doctors in private practice to close their surgeries.

Sustained pressure must be exerted on politicians. "Practice closures - also and especially on the bridge days from December 27 to 29 - are a must so that even the last people in Berlin understand that good outpatient care needs appropriate framework conditions from politicians," KVH board chairmen Frank Dastych and Armin Beck are quoted as saying in the press release.

The KVH's medical on-call service centers are open between the years to support the protest. Practices in Hesse and throughout Germany have already closed several times this year to demonstrate for better conditions.
