Doctors and Minister Hoch call for flu vaccination
The Rhineland-Palatinate Medical Association and the Ministry of Health have once again called for flu vaccinations this year. "By getting vaccinated, you are not only protecting yourself, but also helping to reduce the spread of flu in the population," said Health Minister Clemens Hoch (SPD) according to a statement on Wednesday. The flu vaccination is particularly essential for high-risk patients, including people with chronic illnesses, pregnant women and the over-60s.
"Unfortunately, the dangers of an influenza infection are still underestimated," said Michael Fink, Vice President of the State Medical Association. According to him, the dangerous consequences of influenza are heart attacks and other heart problems. "Vaccination is therefore important for every citizen," said Fink.
According to the information, the annual flu vaccination, which is adapted to the prevailing virus types, is reimbursed by health insurance companies. The flu season usually begins in the fall and lasts until spring.
The ministry and medical association advise groups of people such as the over-60s or people with pre-existing conditions to get a booster of the coronavirus vaccination.
The annual flu vaccination, which contains proteins from various strains of the influenza virus, is considered essential in the field of medicine for individuals with chronic illnesses, as well as the elderly and pregnant women, to boost their health against the potential dangers of flu. Despite the importance of vaccination in reducing the spread and severe consequences of influenza, such as heart attacks and other heart problems, many citizens still underestimate its significance.
