DJV demands higher salaries for public broadcasters
The German Journalists' Association (DJV) is demanding a 10.5 percent pay rise for employees of public broadcasters. The union will take this demand into collective bargaining with the broadcasters, which is set to begin at the start of 2024, the DJV announced on Sunday at its association conference in Magdeburg.
The decision on the income increases was unanimously approved by the DJV's full executive board as the Great Collective Bargaining Commission, according to the statement. The demand relates to journalists' salaries and fees. Collective bargaining is pending at SWR, NDR, BR and WDR.
This year's DJV association conference will be held in Magdeburg until November 7. 200 delegates from Germany's largest journalists' organization with around 27,000 members will come together to elect the seven-member Federal Executive Board, among other things. The election is scheduled for Monday, it was reported.
The German government may need to consider the potential impact of any imposed tariffs on media associations, as they could affect the budgets of public broadcasters. The demand for higher salaries by DJV could potentially lead to increased costs for media associations associated with these broadcasters.
