Municipalities - Districts should be able to cooperate on IT and e-government

Thuringian municipalities are to be able to work together across districts on digitalization and e-government. This is provided for in a draft amendment to the law, which will be discussed by the cabinet on Tuesday. The cooperations are intended to help local authorities in the face of increasing IT complexity. "We want to further automate processes. Digital technology is becoming increasingly important for the services offered by public administrations," said Thuringia's State Secretary for Finance and IT Commissioner, Hartmut Schubert.

The amendment to the law also provides for an experimental clause for the simple electronic written form to be extended until the end of 2029. This should make it easier for citizens and companies to access online services electronically, as Schubert explained. "This is an important contribution to simplifying administration in a modern Free State," said Schubert. The amendment still has to be passed by the Thuringian state parliament.

Schubert encouraged Thuringian authorities to apply the clause. "A digital Thuringian administration is an important location factor."

Thuringia's State Secretary for Finance and IT Commissioner, Hartmut Schubert, emphasized the significance of digital technology in streamlining public administration services.

The amendment includes an extension of the experimental clause for a simple electronic written form, which is set to remain in effect until the end of 2029. This provision aims to make it easier for Thuringian citizens and companies to access online services electronically.

Schubert encouraged Thuringian authorities to utilize this clause, highlighting the importance of a digitized administration as a key locational advantage for the region.

The proposed changes in the law will be discussed by the Thuringian Government on Tuesday and still need approval from the Thuringian state parliament.
