Rail traffic - Disruptions also possible at Odeg due to the GDL strike
According to the company, regional trains operated by Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn (Odeg) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern may also experience disruptions due to the warning strike announced by the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL). "We recommend that all passengers check alternative travel options, as increased capacity utilization and cancellations are likely," Odeg wrote on its website on Wednesday evening.
Odeg employees will not be involved in the strike and all Odeg regional trains in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will be running. However, Odeg uses DB Netz AG infrastructure.
The effects at Deutsche Bahn are likely to be far more dramatic. The strike on passenger services is due to begin on Thursday evening at 22:00 and last until Friday evening at 22:00. However, disruptions are expected even before the official start of the warning strike. All employees in the long-distance and regional transport sectors, among others, have been called to strike.
Deutsche Bahn intends to offer an emergency timetable for long-distance services with a greatly reduced number of journeys. There will also be massive restrictions on regional services. Travelers are asked to find out whether their connection is available before starting their journey and to refrain from non-essential travel with Deutsche Bahn during the warning strike or to postpone their journey. Such tickets could be used later. The GDL last went on strike at Deutsche Bahn on November 15 and 16. According to Odeg, there were no significant disruptions at that time.
