Dirk Schuster after leaving FCK: "It was a great time"
Dirk Schuster has bid farewell to 1. FC Kaiserslautern with a big thank you to the fans and also with pride. "The Betzenberg is once again being spoken about with respect and appreciation in soccer Germany," the 55-year-old wrote in a message to the supporters of the traditional club. "You can be proud of that. And that makes us proud too. That's why we can say: It was a great time. A great time with you!"
The second division club, without a win in five games, surprisingly parted ways with Schuster on Thursday. The former Bundesliga professional took over in May 2022 and led the Red Devils to the second division shortly afterwards. Like the 55-year-old, his assistant Sascha Franz was also relieved of his duties.
Kaiserslautern currently occupy eleventh place in the current season with 18 points. "I think it's relatively normal for there to be difficult phases, especially in the second year," said Schuster. "Our common goal was a midfield position - and that's where we're now handing over the team."
Despite the challenging second half of the season, Dirk Schuster's tenure with Bundesliga 2's Kaiserslautern was marked by a return to respect and appreciation in German soccer. His departure comes after leading the Red Devils back to the second division.
