Festival on Ship MV - Director Haselböck's employment is prolonged before the set date.

Around a week before the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern festivals kick off, the contract of Intendant Ursula Haselböck was unexpectedly extended until 2030. The festivals revealed this news on Tuesday. The Austrian is devoted to her programmatic approach, even for the connection of various listener experiences, the statement reads. Her initial contract was set to expire on August 31, 2025.

"Of course, in these tumultuous times, the frequently mentioned power of music can contribute something to social cohesion and cultural self-awareness, and at the same time, showcase the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region regionally," said Haselböck.

Haselböck took over the guidance of the festivals from her predecessor Markus Fein on September 1, 2020. Matthias von Hülsen, the founding director of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern festivals, specifically lauded the Austrian for her leadership during the coronavirus pandemic: "She managed to keep the atmosphere," said von Hülsen on Tuesday. "The committees are extremely satisfied with her work."

During Haselböck's previous term, there were programmatic advancements, such as the addition of the "Not quite classical" format with the jazz series "Border Crossers," but also the continuation of well-established programs like "Young Elite."

The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern festivals' summer season, which rank among Germany's largest classical festivals, usually starts in mid-June and ends in mid-September. The opening concert on June 14 in Wismar will be performed by the Hamburg NDR Elbphilharmonie and clarinetist Martin Fröst.

A total of 130 performances are scheduled at 92 locations, including churches, palaces, workshops, manor houses, and parks. 23 of these performances will be put on by the Signum saxophone quartet. The four young saxophone players from Slovenia and Italy are the festival's featured prize winners this year. In the previous season, approximately 65,000 music enthusiasts attended the festivals' concerts.
